Raise Pool Salt Level
A “LOW SALT” light often means you are hundreds of ppm under target even when the water looks fine. This worked example uses 12,000 gallons, 1,500 ppm current, and 3,200 ppm target — a bigger jump than a routine top-off.
Controls below let you lower the target if your chlorinator manufacturer specifies something other than 3,200 ppm. If the current reading is already at or above your target, the result will say no salt is needed.
Retest with a strip or meter after a full filter cycle before you buy extra bags.
Result
| Pool volume | 12,000 gal |
|---|---|
| Raise salinity by | 1,700 ppm |
| Salt to add | 170 lb |
| 40 lb bags (rounded up) | 5 |
| Leftover after bags | 30 lb |
About 1 lb of salt per 1,000 gallons raises salinity roughly 120 ppm. Estimates only — confirm with your test kit.
